Stepashin proposed to recognize the actions of the German army during the Second World War as genocide

Sergey Stepashin, Chairman of the Association of Lawyers of Russia, addressed the Chairman of the State Duma Vyacheslav Volodin with a proposal to recognize the actions of the German army and its allies as genocide of the peaceful Soviet population during the Great Patriotic War.

“I ask the State Duma of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation to consider the issue of recognizing the actions of the German army and its allies as genocide of the civilian Soviet population during the Great Patriotic War,” says the appeal to Volodin, which is at the disposal of Vedomosti.

Stepashin noted that over the past few years, the courts have recognized established and newly revealed crimes committed during the Great Patriotic War against peaceful Soviet citizens as genocide. “Under the conditions of external pressure on the Russian Federation, such court decisions confirm the committed crimes without a statute of limitations and preserve the historical truth,” emphasizes the chairman of the AJUR.

On November 29, Russian President Vladimir Putin at the 10th Anniversary All-Russian Congress of Judges drew attention in his speech to the importance of the work of regional and district courts of Russia in recognizing the facts of the genocide of civilians during the Great Patriotic War. “The collection of evidence about the atrocities and crimes of the Nazis continues. And henceforth, each such fact must be given a legal judicial assessment,” Putin said.
