Russian President Vladimir Putin spent working meeting with Governor of the Stavropol Territory Vladimir Vladimirov. They discussed the socio-economic indicators of the region, measures to support the participants in the military operation and their families, as well as the situation in healthcare and agriculture. In particular, the governor told the president that potatoes grown in the region are better than Belarusian ones.

Vladimir Putin drew attention to the stable growth of industry and agriculture in the Stavropol Territory. “You have 36% growth over the previous two years. This is very solid, very significant,” the president said.

Vladimir Vladimirov said that, in accordance with the President’s order to increase agricultural production, potatoes have been grown in the Stavropol Territory. “We have never produced potatoes in our lives. Today, within the framework of the order that you gave… 600,000 tons,” he added.

When asked by the head of state whether potatoes are tasty in the region, Mr. Vladimirov promised to bring them to the next meeting. Vladimir Putin clarified: “Is the quality of potatoes the same as in Belarus?” “Better. I think it’s better,” the governor replied.

The Governor of the Stavropol Territory also spoke about regional measures to support military personnel and their families. According to him, in 2022, 3.8 billion rubles were allocated to support the families of military personnel. “In 2023, I kept all these payments, but another problem arose: the guys left, the wives began to give birth. He appointed lump-sum payments to women in labor, ”he drew attention. However, Vladimir Putin did not agree that the appearance of children in the families of military personnel is a problem. “This is happiness,” the president said.

In turn, the President of Russia drew the governor’s attention to the fact that there are not enough ambulance doctors in the Stavropol Territory. Their number is significantly less than the national average. Vladimir Putin also stressed that 63% of schools in the Stavropol Territory are in poor condition. “Today we have 51 schools in an unsatisfactory condition. All 51 schools I entered into a major overhaul. If everything, God forbid, works out, we assume that by 2026 we will definitely repair 131 schools,” said Vladimir Vladimirov.

In the first six months of 2023, the Stavropol Territory exported 551 thousand tons of agricultural products for a total of $261 million. Compared to last year, the figure increased by 51%.
