Stavropol farmers ask the Federation Council to “stabilize the situation” with diesel fuel

The Chairman of the Association of Gardeners and Nurseries of the Stavropol Territory, Aidyn Shirinov, sent a letter to the Committee of the Federation Council on Agrarian Food Policy and Nature Management. In it, he asks senators to assist in stabilizing the situation with the supply of diesel fuel to agricultural producers.
IN letter, posted on the official page of the association in Telegram, Mr. Shirinov explains that at the moment the farmers of Stavropol are in a very difficult situation, since diesel fuel for agricultural producers is shipped only from oil depots in the Volgograd region. There is no fuel at the Stavropol oil depots, and agricultural producers currently have no more than 40% of the total demand.
In addition, since June 1, diesel fuel has risen in price sharply – by more than 40%, according to Mr. Shirinov. For gardeners who are currently harvesting and transporting crops, as well as laying new intensive gardens in the autumn, this can lead to negative consequences.
According to the chairman of the association, the instability of supplies and the sharp rise in prices for fuels and lubricants exacerbate the already difficult situation in the horticulture industry due to the fact that the cost of credit resources has currently increased and prices for plant protection products and mineral fertilizers have jumped. These factors, according to Mr. Shirinov, raise the question of “the feasibility of developing investment projects for the establishment of perennial plantations due to the unprofitability of production”, “reduction in fruit production in the future and, as a result, failure to meet the indicators of the Food Security Doctrine to provide the population with fruits and berries.”
As Aidyn Shirinov explained to Kommersant, most of all farmers are now worried not even about the price of diesel fuel, but about its absence. “I don’t remember the last time there was such a shortage of fuel, and it was just when the field work was in full swing. Now, when there is no fuel at the oil depots, everyone is trying to find it somewhere and stock up for future use, someone finds it in neighboring regions, although farmers have the same problems there. Everyone is also frightened by the fact that in the future it is not clear how much fuel, which is pegged to the dollar, will cost. And for the future and to have enough until spring at current prices, this is pulling money out of circulation, because taking diesel fuel at 20% on credit is simply unreasonable,” Mr. Shirinov explained.
In his opinion, if in the short term we can talk about disruptions in investment projects of gardeners and nursery farmers, then in the future, if the situation with prices and the availability of fuel does not stabilize, we can predict a significant increase in prices for final products.
