Statisticians have calculated where it is more profitable to buy and maintain a car: unexpected conclusions

It is cheaper to buy a used foreign car in Moscow than in the Moscow region

In honor of Motorist Day, which is celebrated on October 29, Mosstat calculated how expensive it is to have a car if you are a resident of Moscow or the Moscow region.

As Mosstat reported to MK, compared to September last year, prices for domestic cars in the capital increased by 8.3%, and in the Moscow region, on the contrary, decreased by 10.6%. Purchasing a new domestic passenger car in the capital will cost, on average, over 1 million rubles, in the region – 983.1 thousand rubles. The situation with foreign cars is the opposite: you will have to spend 2.3 million rubles on a new “passenger car” in Moscow, and 2.4 million rubles in the Moscow region. It is also more profitable to buy a used foreign car in the capital, where it will cost, on average, 1.6 million rubles, while in the region – 1.7 million rubles. Foreign-made cars have risen significantly in price, especially in the Moscow region. In the capital, prices for new foreign cars increased over the year by 9.5%, for used ones – by 23.1%. In the region, new foreign cars increased in price by 33.3%, used ones – by 41.7%.

Changing tires also turns out to be more profitable in the area. In Moscow, purchasing tires will cost an average of 6.6 thousand rubles per piece. The cost of the full complex is approximately 26.4 thousand rubles. In the Moscow region, the price of one tire is more than 5.8 thousand rubles. To “put shoes on” all four wheels, you will have to pay about 23.2 thousand rubles.

The vast majority of drivers turn to a car service center for seasonal tire replacement. In Moscow, tire fitting for one wheel of a passenger car in September 2023 cost 625.36 rubles, and in the Moscow region – 576.52 rubles. Adjusting the wheel alignment of a passenger car during the same period cost 2.2 thousand rubles in Moscow, and 1.7 thousand rubles in the region.

As for fuel, a liter of AI-92 gasoline in September cost 50.86 rubles in Moscow, and 51.71 rubles in the Moscow region. A liter of AI-95 gasoline cost 56.85 rubles in the capital, and 56.80 rubles in the region. AI-98 gasoline and higher is even more expensive: in Moscow – 69.27 rubles per liter, in the region – 69.32 rubles per liter. Filling a car with diesel motor fuel costs 62.30 rubles per liter in Moscow, and 63.82 rubles per liter in the Moscow region. The cheapest is gas motor fuel: in the capital it cost 27.40 rubles per liter in September, in the region – 26.42 rubles per liter. But a relatively small number of cars are equipped with engines capable of running on gas.

In addition, car owners must insure their “iron horse”. In Moscow, an MTPL policy costs, on average, 16.5 thousand rubles, in the Moscow region – 13.5 thousand rubles. If owners of a passenger car want to take out a CASCO policy – voluntary insurance against standard risks (theft and damage), they will have to lighten their wallet by a much more substantial amount. The cost of such a policy in the capital is on average 83.7 thousand rubles, in the Moscow region – 65.2 thousand rubles.
