First Deputy Chairman of the State Duma Committee on Defense, Chairman of the Rodina Party, Alexey Zhuravlev, said that it is necessary to make changes to the Russian Constitution and include information about “traditional Orthodox values” in the country’s basic law.
“The World Russian People’s Council is currently taking place. Religious and public figures, scientists and officials discuss the most important issues of migration, education, and ideology. My position here is known – the Russian state, in principle, should be based on traditional Orthodox values, which should certainly be included in the Constitution,” the parliamentarian wrote in his Telegram channel.
According to him, the Constitution is “not a religious dogma, but a living document that must correspond to modern realities.” The parliamentarian noted that it is necessary to include articles in the Basic Law that would enshrine “the further development of the country along the path of patriotism.”
On November 22, during the Derzhavin Readings, the Chairman of the Investigative Committee of Russia, Alexander Bastrykin, came up with a similar idea. He offered taking into account one of the goals of the military operation, that is, the “denazification of Ukraine,” to formulate the ideology of Russian society and enshrine it in the Constitution. After this, presidential press secretary Dmitry Peskov statedthat the Kremlin does not see the need to introduce a single national ideology in the country.
