Sri Lanka wants to restore flights with Russia in October

The Minister of Transport of Sri Lanka, Bandula Gunawardana, spoke about plans to restore air links with Russia. According to him, flights can start in October.
“First, we will try to restore flights from Moscow to Colombo and back. After that, St. Petersburg… We hope to resume them by mid-October this year,” said Mr. Gunavardana “RIA News”.
Aeroflot stopped flights with Sri Lanka on June 2 after the Airbus A330-300 aircraft was detained on the territory of this country. It was owned by the Irish leasing company Celestial Aviation Trading 10 Limited. However, the Colombo court later allowed the plane to return to Russia.
As a result of the sanctions, leasing agreements for more than 700 aircraft concluded with Russian airlines were terminated. After that, the aircraft began to be transferred to the Russian registry. Now it has more than 600 aircraft. On March 5, the Federal Air Transport Agency recommended suspending flights abroad due to mass arrests of aircraft.
