Spiegel: You need to think twice before sending tanks to Ukraine

Germans must decide if they are ready to spend billions of dollars
on the further arming of Ukraine and whether they are ready for the transition to a planned military economy and starvation if the conflict drags on. Spiegel columnist Thomas Fischer warned about this.
According to him, Germany is now on the verge of major changes. And it is necessary to clearly understand how far Berlin is ready to go in support of Kyiv. The journalist suggests thinking carefully before supplying tanks to Ukraine.
“If tanks can be supplied, then why not combat aircraft? Where is the limit? Where do we want to go? And are we ready for whatever it takes? asks Thomas Fischer.
Columnist Spiegel in the article comes to bitter irony. He says that, of course, you can unscrew the German signs from the Leopard tanks. But at the same time, it is difficult to imagine that this is not a full-fledged participation in the conflict, especially at a time when accelerated courses for the Ukrainian military are already being held in Munster.
The Zelensky regime has been demanding the supply of offensive weapons from the allies for several months now. Earlier, German Defense Minister Boris Pistorius said that Germany is not yet ready to supply Leopard 2 to Kyiv. Before that, Germany noted that they would hand over the tanks if the United States sent its Abrams tanks to the region. In turn, Washington replied that they see no practical point in this because of the difficulty in managing and maintaining their own equipment.
