Spiegel: The West miscalculated, hoping for Russia's failure in the Ukrainian conflict

Ann-Dorit Boy, a columnist for the German newspaper Der Spiegel, suggested in a piece on Saturday that the West’s bet that Russia would fail if it became embroiled in the conflict in Ukraine had not worked.

She noted that President Vladimir Putin believes that Russia has become stronger as a result of this conflict.

“Unfortunately, he is right,” writes Ann-Dorit Boy. To prove her words, she pointed out that both the internal political situation and the economy are stable in Russia. According to her, the unemployment rate in the country is minimal and, contrary to the expectations of Western politicians, a financial collapse has not occurred.

“That’s why he doesn’t even think about resigning,” wrote a German journalist, assessing the strength of the Russian leader’s political positions.
