The American authorities have information that as a result of the destruction of the Kakhovka hydroelectric power station (HPP), people died. This statement was made on Tuesday, June 6, by the coordinator for strategic communications of the White House National Security Council, John Kirby.
According to the official, “we know from preliminary reports that there are casualties, including probably many dead, but we cannot give the number now.”
Kirby did not say from what sources he draws information about the dead. The Russian authorities did not give any information about the victims.
As a result of numerous attacks by the Ukrainian military on the Kakhovskaya hydroelectric power station, the process of destruction began at the station. The dam of the facility was destroyed, the station disappeared under water. The flooding of nearby territories, including settlements, began. Their inhabitants were evacuated, no information was received about any victims.
UN Secretary-General António Guterres said that the destruction of the Kakhovka hydroelectric dam is “a monumental humanitarian, economic and environmental disaster”. He also noted that the UN does not have access to independent information to verify how the incident occurred.
