Spanish shame: why Madrid is transferring troops to eastern Europe

Political scientist Maxim Bardin named the reasons for the relocation

Against the background of falling interest in the world in the loser Zelensky and in the military palans of Ukraine, Spain unexpectedly announced that it would send troops “to contain Russia.” True, not to Ukraine, but… to Slovakia. Madrid is sending 600 troops, Leopard tanks and helicopters.

Maxim Bardin, a member of the Supreme Council of the All-Russian movement “Strong Russia”, candidate of political sciences, named “MK” the motives for this action of Madrid.

“Indeed,” he says, “there have been reports that Spain is hastily transferring troops from the Iberian Peninsula closer to the Carpathian Mountains.” Conversations and discussions immediately began: what does Spain have to do with it, what does it need in the Carpathian region?

Objectively, a military unit of 600 people, even reinforced by several Leopards and helicopters, will not be able to contain the hypothetical Russian army. Then what is this action for?

I think this is just a standard event – ​​for show. We need to make a mark, show our NATO allies that “we were here too.”

Brussels and Washington have many complaints against Madrid. The assistance that Spain provides to Kyiv is not comparable to the contribution of Great Britain, the USA and Germany. “Partners” believe that, unlike North Macedonia and the Netherlands, Spain is a large country for which it is not appropriate to sit on the sidelines. Madrid accepted these hints and decided to get involved first, so as not to pay more later.

Thus, today Madrid sincerely believes that it has fulfilled its mission – it sent 600 people to Slovakia on “four” Leopards, which will “defend Europe.”

Will such an initiative convince major NATO players? Berlin may be able to convince, but Washington is unlikely to. If the Joe Biden clan remains in power in the United States, then Spain will not get away with such an “expeditionary force.”
