South Korea extradites accused of financing ISIS to Russia

South Korean authorities handed over to Russian law enforcement officers a man who is accused of financing a terrorist group from ISIS * (a terrorist group banned in Russia), RIA Novosti reports citing the representative of the Russian Ministry of Internal Affairs Irina Volk.

As specified, the name of the accused is Shakirzhon Ulpidzhanov.

“Shakirzhon Ulpidzhanov was deported from the Republic of Korea, accompanied by employees of the NCB Interpol of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia,” Volk said.

The report says that Ulpidzhanov financed the terrorists during his stay in South Korea, providing funds for the purchase of firearms. The criminal case was opened in January 2023, Ulpidzhanov was detained by South Korean security forces in March, and the deportation procedure began later.

“Today he was handed over to representatives of the Russian police for delivery to Moscow,” the press secretary of the Ministry of Internal Affairs said.
