South African President Cyril Ramaphosa will lead the republic’s delegation at the Russia-Africa summit in St. Petersburg. This was reported in the embassy of the African country.
“President Ramaphos accepted the invitation of the President [России Владимира] Putin to attend the summit. He will lead the South African delegation,” the embassy said (quote according to TASS). In addition, the summit will be visited by South African Foreign Minister Naledi Pandor.
At the end of June, about the likelihood of the arrival of the South African president at the summit wrote Vedomosti, citing diplomatic sources. The summit will take place on July 27-28. Initially, the event was scheduled from July 26 to 29, the press secretary of the President of Russia Dmitry Peskov explained the reduction in the dates of the event by the “nuance of the program”.
Russian President Vladimir Putin and Mozambican President Filipe Nyusi will also take part in the summit. In addition, the Russian president invited the head of Eritrea, Isaias Afevorki, to the summit.
Ramaphosa visited Russia with four other African leaders in June as part of a mediation mission to resolve the conflict in Ukraine. Then the President of South Africa met with Putin.
