According to RIA Novosti, the Russian Armed Forces are planning to create a new light military transport aircraft, the Il-212, with turbojet engines to replace the An-26 and An-72 aircraft. An informed source said that the Il-112V project will be significantly modernized and will receive a new marking – Il-212. Most of the avionics, avionics and fuselage will be retained, but the wing, landing gear, fuel and hydraulic systems will be redesigned. The new aircraft will be equipped with PD-8 turbojet engines, rather than TV-117S turboprop engines, to ensure operation on unprepared runways and unpaved airfields. Range, payload and cargo compartment dimensions are still being developed, but the new aircraft is expected to have greater payload capacity thanks to more powerful engines.
