Sotheby's is holding an auction of Rough Diamonds watches – Style

On April 11, in parallel with the Watches & Wonders watch exhibition, an unusual Rough Diamonds auction will be held in Geneva. You might think it’s about diamonds, but in fact it will feature rare, little-known watches from major global brands, including Patek Phillipe, Audemars Piguet, Vacheron Constantin, Jaeger-LeCoultre. 24 unique lots were carefully selected by Sotheby’s specialists, literally dug out of the ground – this is what the name of the auction hints at. All watches in the lot were manufactured at least 30 years ago – and already for that time they made a breakthrough both in technical and design terms. “Vintage watch collecting is experiencing a renaissance as collectors increasingly seek out unusual pieces to express themselves,” explains Josh Pullan, global head of luxury at Sotheby’s. “We are excited to bring to market an entirely new auction concept that offers a thoughtful approach to rare and unconventional timepieces designed to capture the imagination of both longtime vintage watch aficionados and new collectors alike.”

We talk about several of the most interesting lots.
