How can you maintain a tan and speed up skin recovery after exposure to the sun, says Kommersant Style.

In addition to pleasant memories, summer also leaves its mark on your skin – even if this year’s vacation fell on central Russia. It doesn’t matter if Turkey, the Maldives or Voronezh – solar activity must be taken into account. How you feel about yourself during the hottest months will determine the state of your skin for the rest of the year, and in the long run will affect how you look in the future.

Sun exposure is often equated with stress: research shows that even if you don’t burn, UV radiation can break down the skin barrier and cause dryness and inflammation. It can also lead to DNA damage that you don’t notice that continues after sun exposure. Therefore, after sunbathing (and generally leaving the house on hot days), experts recommend soothing, restorative products rich in nourishing and anti-inflammatory ingredients, such as aloe vera, propolis, cucumber or hyaluronic acid, with a low or no alcohol content.

In addition, you should not do peels, scrubs and other exfoliating procedures. “All tanning is in the surface layer of the epidermis, and as soon as exfoliation occurs, the tanning will subside because the skin will be renewed,” explains Maria Bondareva, dermatologist, cosmetologist at the Remedy Lab clinic. She also recommends connecting dietary supplements with beta-carotene in order to prolong the tan from the inside. It is worth adding more red fruits and vegetables (peppers, carrots, apples, peaches) to the diet – they contain natural beta-carotene and lycopene, which are also responsible for skin color.
