Sobyanin: 45,000 Muscovites serve in the special operation zone

Approximately 45,000 Moscow residents are fighting in a military special operation zone in Ukraine, Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin said at the all-Russian forum “Territory of Meanings”.

According to him, as part of the partial mobilization, about 20,000 Muscovites were called up for service, and the same number are taking part in the special operation as volunteers or contract soldiers.

“I don’t know how many professional soldiers left, because Moscow is generally a military city, but I think it’s at least 5,000. That is, 45,000 Muscovites are fighting in the NVO zone today,” he said (quote according to RIA Novosti).

Earlier on July 26, Sobyanin during a visit to the Single selection point for military service under a contract informedthat 10,000 Muscovites signed up to participate in the special operation. The mayor of Moscow spoke to one of the contractors and presented him with a pistol. According to Sobyanin, this is his “personal weapon”, which he re-registered as a man.

In early June, the Ministry of Defense announced the expansion of the network of points for the selection of citizens for military service under the contract and increased the number of instructors to work with candidates. According to the ministry, there are more people in the country who want to serve under a contract, and Russians can apply to the selection point on “any convenient day of the week.”
