Smartphone shipments in China fall to a ten-year low

In 2022, smartphone shipments in the domestic market in China decreased by 13.2%, amounting to 286 million. Such data today, January 29, introduced research company IDC. Thus, the indicator turned out to be the lowest since 2013 and for the first time since that moment did not reach the level of 300 million per year.
Such a serious reduction in supplies is primarily due to the numerous lockdowns and other restrictive measures due to the COVID-19 pandemic, which had a negative impact on the Chinese economy as a whole and on consumer sentiment. Vivo became the leader of the Chinese market in 2022 (18.6%). It is followed by Honor (18.1%), Oppo and Apple (16.8% each). Fifth place is occupied by Xiaomi (13.7%). At the same time, in the global market, Apple and Xiaomi are among the top three smartphone manufacturers, occupying the first and third positions, respectively.
Chinese results last year were slightly worse than the global level. Earlier this week IDC introduced data on smartphone shipments in the world as a whole: they decreased by 11.3% in 2022 and also turned out to be the worst since 2013.
