Slutsky praised China’s peace plan for Ukraine higher than UN resolution

The head of the State Duma Committee on International Affairs, Leonid Slutsky, said that the proposals of the Chinese authorities on a political settlement of the Ukrainian crisis look more balanced than the resolution adopted by the UN General Assembly.

“In contrast to the UN resolution, China’s “peace plan” looks much more balanced in most points. Beijing’s proposals are yet to be discussed, but in the main it is a plan to end the hegemony of the collective West, a plan to refuse to substitute the “force of law” for the “law of force”, a plan to respect the equal security interests of all absolutely parties,” wrote MP in his Telegram channel.

According to Slutsky, Russia “is set for peace, but not to the detriment of the security and sovereignty” of the country. He added that Moscow is ready for a constructive discussion of a peaceful settlement, but noted that “it is useless to put pressure on Russia.” The deputy said that “at the suggestion of Kyiv, or rather the United States, Russia is offered to capitulate,” but “Moscow will not agree to this.”

February 23 General Assembly accepted resolution of Ukraine and its allies on the anniversary of the military operation. The resolution requires the complete withdrawal of the Russian army from the territory of Ukraine and the cessation of hostilities. Permanent Representative of Russia to the UN Vasily Nebenzya named this project is “one-sided and divorced from reality”, as well as “anti-Russian and harmful”.

Today, February 24, the Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs presented the country’s position on the peaceful settlement of the conflict, consisting of 12 points. In particular, the PRC proposes compliance with the UN Charter on respect for the sovereignty of all countries, the cessation of hostilities and the promotion of a dialogue between Moscow and Kiev, the implementation of an agreement on the export of Ukrainian grain from the Black Sea ports, as well as assistance to the world community in the restoration of the affected areas after the end of hostilities.
