More and more French people believe that the standard of living has improved over the past 12 months and that this should continue.
Household morale in France rebounded slightly in August after seven consecutive months of decline, INSEE reported on Friday.
At 82 points, the indicator which summarizes it remains however well below its long-term average which is 100, adds the National Institute of Statistics in a press release.
Slight improvement in future prospects
The French are more likely to believe that the standard of living has improved in France over the past 12 months and that it will continue to do so over the next 12 months. Moreover, households’ fears about the evolution of unemployment are decreasing slightly. The view of the French on their past personal financial situation again loses one point, but the perspective of future evolution of this situation gains three.
Households’ balance of opinion on their current savings capacity has also lost one point, but that on the possibility of saving money in the future is up by two points. Finally, the proportion of households who consider that prices have increased over the past 12 months is stable, at its highest level since the summer of 2008.

But the proportion of those who believe that prices will accelerate in the next 12 months is falling again, more markedly than in July. However, this share remains well above its long-term average, details INSEE, while the rise in consumer prices reached 6.1% over one year in July.
