British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak responded to the request of the President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky, expressed during a speech in the British Parliament, to transfer fighter jets to Kyiv. According to Sky News, Sunak asked Defense Secretary Ben Wallace to find out what planes London could potentially provide to Ukraine.
A British government spokesman told reporters that the planes are a “long-term solution” and “short-term opportunities” are what Kyiv needs most. So far, the decision on the transfer of aircraft has not been made. However, in the spring, Downing Street confirmed, the training of Ukrainian pilots will begin.
For now, Sunak’s spokesman added, London felt it was right “to provide short-term equipment such as Challenger tanks, additional guns, long-range weapons.”
