Six pilots of the Armed Forces of Ukraine (APU) were killed in the Bakhmut (Artyomovsk) direction while performing a combat mission. This was announced on Wednesday, August 30, by Yevgeny Rakita, a representative of the 18th Separate Army Aviation Brigade named after Igor Sikorsky.
Rakita noted that the pilots died while performing a combat mission, they were all officers.
He did not provide other details.
Earlier, former US Army intelligence officer Scott Ritter warned that the powerful Russian air defense system nullifies the chances of American fighters to withstand the confrontation – F-16s will not survive a collision with Russian air defense, which means Ukrainian pilots piloting them will also die.
At the same time, three pilots of the Armed Forces of Ukraine died not in the course of hostilities, but during training flights – two L-39 combat training aircraft collided in the sky. Three dead pilots were posthumously awarded new military ranks.
