Russian Finance Minister Anton Siluanov said that the issue of raising taxes for the Russians is irrelevant, and the time for this is far from “not the best.” He announced this during a speech at a meeting of the Duma Committee on Budget and Taxes.
“We agreed that we will resort to measures to increase taxes on the population, not only as a last resort – we will not touch them at all,” RIA Novosti quoted the minister as saying.
In addition, the head of the department noted that the issue of taxation of Russians is always a very sensitive issue.
Siluanov recalled that at one time a progressive scale of taxation on the income of individuals was introduced for a specific task: to support sick children who need expensive treatment.
At the same time, the minister also spoke out against increasing the scale for wealthy Russians, saying that this could undermine confidence in the actions of the government and authorities.
Currently, citizens of the Russian Federation who earn more than 5 million rubles a year deduct 15 percent in the form of personal income tax, while the rest – 13 percent.
