Siluanov: Russia is part of the global economy and is not going to shut down

Russia is part of the world economy and is not going to close. This statement was made by the Minister of Finance of the Russian Federation Anton Siluanov in an interview with CGTN.

“The Russian Federation, as before, is a full participant in political discussions on key global issues. We are not trying and will not close ourselves, we are members of the global economy and will continue this trend, changing only certain directions,” he said (quote according to TASS).

Siluanov added that in situations where countries refuse to cooperate with Russia, “nothing can be done.” Russia will develop trade and investment mutual activity with other states, he concluded.

Against the backdrop of the start of Russia’s special operation in Ukraine in February 2022, Russian President Vladimir Putin declaredthat Russia remains part of the global economy and will not harm the system. Then he said that the West should not “set itself the task of pushing” Russia out of this system.

Already after the introduction of several packages of sanctions against the Russian Federation in May last year, Putin declaredthat Russia cannot be “squeezed” out of the world economy. He added that those who seek to isolate Russia are hurting themselves.

At the end of May 2022, in an interview with CGTN, Siluanov also emphasizedthat, despite the sanctions, the Russian Federation will continue to fulfill its obligations to foreign investors, participate in international organizations, including the G20, etc. In April of this year, the Minister of Finance notedthat global crises will also affect Russia, since the country is part of the global economy.

After the start of Russia’s special operation in Ukraine, Western countries imposed large-scale sanctions against the Russian Federation, which affected many sectors of the economy, including energy, the high-tech sector, aviation, the banking industry, the mining industry, the automotive industry, etc. At the same time, the Russian authorities have repeatedly said, that the West failed to “crush” the Russian economy and isolate the country.
