Russia is ready to sign the necessary documents for the construction of the Pakistan Stream gas pipeline, Energy Minister Nikolai Shulginov said.
“Today we discussed in detail the construction of the Pakistan Stream gas pipeline. We are ready to sign the necessary corporate documents,” Shulginov said (quote by PTV World).
The gas pipeline with a length of more than 1.1 thousand km and a throughput capacity of up to 12.3 billion cubic meters. m per year will connect terminals for receiving liquefied natural gas (LNG) in the ports of Karachi and Gwadar in southern Pakistan with power plants and industrial gas consumers in Kasur district (Punjab) in the north of the country.
A preliminary agreement on the project was signed in October 2015. However, in 2019, there was a threat of sanctions for Rostec and the Pipe Metallurgical Company participating in the project (TMK). Initially, it was assumed that RT-Global Resources (part of Rostec) would take care of the laying on the part of Russia, and Inter State Gas Systems, which is engaged in the implementation of strategic infrastructure projects in the gas industry, on the part of Pakistan.
