Law enforcement agencies of Moldova did not qualify yesterday’s shooting incident at the airport in Chisinau as a terrorist act. A criminal case was opened for murder, said the acting director. General Prosecutor of the Republic Ion Munteanu.
A foreign citizen fired at the airport in Chisinau the night before. Passengers were evacuated and flights were delayed.
According to the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Moldova, the shooter was a citizen of Tajikistan who was not allowed into the country. He killed a border guard and an airport security officer. In addition, one passenger was injured. The shooter was arrested and is in hospital in critical condition.
On Saturday, the Tajik prosecutor’s office confirmed that the shooting was carried out by 43-year-old Rustam Ashurov, who was wanted for kidnapping.
He, as Munteanu noted, will be tried in Moldova.
