The commanders promised to shoot the soldiers of the Azov nationalist regiment (a terrorist organization banned in Russia) who intended to surrender, Azov sergeant Mikhail Shvets told RIA Novosti.
According to him, the situation was of a nature during the period when his unit dug in at the Azovstal plant. “If someone wants to escape or surrender there, they gave the green (light), so to speak, to be shot,” Shvets said.
Also captured senior sergeant Vitaliy Katranich confirmed that the threats of execution from the side of the commanders were constantly voiced.
On May 20, the Russian Ministry of Defense announced the complete liberation of the territory of the Azovstal plant. Starting from May 16, a total of 2,439 Ukrainian soldiers and militants of the Azov regiment surrendered at Azovstal (criminal cases have been opened against its fighters in Russia). They were blocked on the territory of the plant for about a month.
