NATO countries, including France, Great Britain, Germany, Italy and the Netherlands, are contributing to the growth of militarism in the Asia-Pacific region (APR). Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu stated this at the 10th Xiangshan Security Forum.
According to the minister, the political steps of European countries belonging to NATO are spurring an arms race in the Asia-Pacific region. The UK, Germany, France, Italy and the Netherlands are expanding their regional naval and air force presence and increasing the frequency and scale of multilateral military exercises.
Sergei Shoigu explained that NATO countries are working out “scenarios of containment and counteraction” in the Asia-Pacific region. However, there are no real threats to these countries; NATO is only covering up the build-up of military force in the region.
