Russian President Vladimir Putin held a working meeting with Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu in St. Petersburg. The head of the military department reported that Russian troops occupied the village of Marinka in the Donetsk People’s Republic (DPR).

Thanks to the decisive actions of our military personnel, the fortified area was broken into. Considering that there are more than 3 thousand houses there and each is a well-fortified point, the liberation of this settlement reduces the enemy’s defense capability and provides us with additional opportunities in this direction. During the liberation of Maryinka, the military of the famous 150th Idritsa-Berlin Division especially distinguished themselves,” the head of the Ministry of Defense emphasized.
The President congratulated Mr. Shoigu and asked him to “convey my warmest congratulations and words of gratitude to everyone who participated in the battles for Marinka.” The head of state noted that based on the results of this operation, state awards will be presented to the military. Vladimir Putin believes that the capture of Marinka will allow the Russian Armed Forces to “enter operational space.”
In addition, Vladimir Putin ordered that the battalion commander Troshin, who participated in the battles for Marinka, be awarded the rank of major. “According to the Regulations on military service, you are not allowed to skip a step. But this provision was approved by presidential decree. The President has the right to correct this situation. I ask you to make a proposal to award him the rank of major. He burned in a tank three times, has seven shell shocks, one shrapnel wound, saved the crew, saved equipment, fought with dignity. Destroyed 5 tanks and 23 armored vehicles,” the president noted.
During the fighting in Donbass in 2014–2015, DPR forces tried to take control of Marinka, located southwest of Donetsk, but were unsuccessful. After the entry of Russian troops into Ukraine in February 2022, the fighting for Marinka continued.
