Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu checked the implementation of the state defense order at the enterprise of the Almaz-Antey Aerospace Defense Concern in Ulyanovsk. He also looked at the work of the workshops for the production of Buk-M3 anti-aircraft missile systems (SAM). About it reported press service of the Ministry of Defense.
“Sergei Shoigu noted that Almaz-Antey’s products are in demand and demonstrate high efficiency in the zone of special military operation,” the press service said in a statement.
During the inspection, Shoigu heard a report from the head of the enterprise about his readiness to transfer the next Buk-M3 division to the RF Armed Forces ahead of schedule by the end of the month. Now it is “in final assembly, in configuration.”
In total, Almaz-Antey was supposed to deliver two divisions of air defense systems by the end of the year, the first of which it had already shipped ahead of schedule in September.
According to the General Director of the Ulyanovsk Mechanical Plant (UMZ; part of Almaz-Antey) Sergei Churin, the enterprise’s infrastructure is ready to increase equipment production volumes planned for 2024-2025.
In turn, Shoigu awarded UMP employees who worked in the special operation zone and serviced the equipment there. “Thank you for your work, both here, in the workshops of this wonderful enterprise, and certainly there, on the front line, where a lot is done with your hands to ensure that our air defense systems are the most effective and, most importantly, arrive on time after repairs, after services for their combat work,” Shoigu said.
The Ulyanovsk Mechanical Plant began work on the Buk-M3 in 2007, the complex was successfully tested by specialists from the concern’s enterprises in July 2016. In the same year, it was transferred to the Russian Armed Forces. According to technical specifications, the Buk-M3 is capable of hitting air targets flying at speeds of up to 3 km/s at ranges from 2.5 to 70 km and altitudes from 15 m to 35 km.
