Relations between Russia and China have reached an unprecedented high level against the backdrop of growing geopolitical tensions in the world. This is stated in the congratulatory telegram of Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu to Colonel-General Zhang Yuxia on the occasion of his appointment to the post of Deputy Chairman of the Central Military Council of the People’s Republic of China.
“Bilateral relations between our countries today have reached a new, unprecedentedly high level and have become the supporting pillar of global stability in the face of growing geopolitical tensions in the world,” Shoigu was quoted as saying by the press service of the Defense Ministry.
Shoigu also congratulated his Chinese counterpart, Colonel-General Li Shangfu, on his appointment as Minister of Defense of the PRC. In a congratulatory telegram, Shoigu expressed confidence that the strategic partnership between Russia and China in the field of military and military-technical cooperation will continue.
Li Shangfu has been approved new Minister of Defense of China and member of the State Council on March 12. Li Shangfu has been under US sanctions since 2018 for buying combat aircraft and equipment from Rosoboronexport. As Reuters wrote earlier, China has acquired Su-35 fighters and S-400 air defense systems from Russia.
Earlier, the NPC deputies unanimously voted for Xi Jinping’s candidacy for the presidency of the PRC. This is the first leader in Chinese history to be re-elected for a third five-year term. At the same time, Xi Jinping was also elected to the post of chairman of the Central Military Commission (CMC) of the PRC. Earlier, in the fall of 2022, he was also re-elected as the head of the Communist Party for the third time.
