Serbia reports casualties as protesters clash with NATO forces

As a result of the clash in the city of Zvecan, which is located in partially recognized Kosovo, there are victims. About it informs Serbian newspaper Vecherne Novosti.

According to the publication, clashes took place between the protesting Serbs and the NATO-led International Force for Stability in Kosovo (KFOR). The Vecherne Novosti correspondent reports that there was shooting. Tear gas and stun grenades were also used. Two people are injured. A few minutes before this incident, Serbian List spokesman Igor Simic asked the protesters to sit on the ground and raise their hands.

Other Serbian media Alo toldthat KFOR started dispersing people and beating Serbs. Before that, the officer of the organization demanded that the protesters release the encircled special forces of the Kosovo police. According to the publication, conditions were set before the Serbs, if they do not unblock the special forces, then KFOR will use force.

TV channel RTS informsthat there are many wounded on both sides. Gunshots and slow detonations are heard.

On May 26, protests began outside the municipalities of Zubin Potok, Zvecan and Leposavić, whose population is Serb-majority, but where, despite low turnout, Albanians were elected. Serbian protesters demanded the annulment of the election results and the resignation of the heads of municipalities. In response, the Kosovo police used tear gas and stun grenades in some municipalities

On the same day, the Serbian army was given in full combat readiness and advanced to the administrative border with Kosovo. Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić gave the order to do so against the backdrop of actions by Kosovo security forces in Serb-populated areas of Kosovo. Serbian Defense Minister Milos Vucevic warned of the threat of a “complete collapse of the dialogue” between Belgrade and Pristina.

At the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Russia condemned actions of the authorities of partially recognized Kosovo in connection with “new anti-Serb provocations”. Earlier on May 29, Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said that “a big explosion is brewing in the center of Europe.” “In the very place where in 1999 NATO carried out aggression against Yugoslavia in violation of every conceivable principle of the Helsinki Final Act and OSCE documents. The situation is alarming, but the West has set a course for the total subjugation of everyone who somehow expresses their own opinion, ” clarified Lavrov (quote from Izvestia).
