Senator Kosachev explained why the Ukrainian flag hung in St. Petersburg

The flag of Ukraine, among others, was present at the session of the CIS Inter-Parliamentary Assembly in St. Petersburg on legal grounds, since the country did not leave the CIS. Member of the Federation Council Konstantin Kosachev wrote about this in his Telegram channel.

The senator noted that those who want to make a scandal on this topic “deliberately confuse red, sour and round simply by the principle of the initial letter.” He recalled that no matter what relations Ukraine has with Russia, the Commonwealth of Independent States and its structures, it has not made official statements about secession from the CIS.

Kosachev noted that he, as a politician, strongly dislikes the flag of Ukraine at the events of the CIS and the CIS IPA. But, as an internationalist by education, he understands that the attitude towards member countries of such associations, the use or not use of their symbols, is not the prerogative of the state where the headquarters is located. He stressed that decisions on issues of this level can only be collective, as prescribed by international law. “Otherwise, you will have to face the fact that someone wants to lower the flag of our (and not only our) country in New York in the case of the UN, in Vienna in the case of the OSCE, in Paris in the case of UNESCO or in Geneva in the case of Inter-Parliamentary Union,” the senator stressed.

Earlier, a video of a young man lowering the flag of Ukraine near the Tauride Palace in St. Petersburg, where the IPA CIS Council was recently held, began to circulate on social networks. Before taking action, he stated: “The flag of an enemy state should not hang in our country. Then the guy climbed over the fence and lowered the blue-and-yellow banner from the flash talk. When the Ukrainian flag fell to the ground, the young man fled.
