Senator Kosachev called “support for the Russian authorities” the declaration in Europe of Wagner PMCs as terrorists

Deputy Chairman of the Federation Council Konstantin Kosachev commented on the decision of the OSCE PA to recognize PMC Wagner as a terrorist organization. He suggested considering this step as “firm support for the Russian authorities.”
“I will separately note the extremely ridiculous point about the recognition of Wagner PMC as a terrorist organization, given that, to put it mildly, this is far from the only PMC in the world. But the very fact that the OSCE PA decided to recognize it as such after an unsuccessful attempt at a rebellion can, I believe, be regarded as a firm support for the Russian authorities,” Mr. Kosachev said in his Telegram channel.
The day before the Parliamentary Assembly (PA) urged OSCE member states to include PMC “Wagner” in the list of terrorist organizations. Seimas of Lithuania went to this step in March 2023. Parliament of Canada seeks recognition of PMC “Wagner” as a terrorist organization since February of the same year. French Parliament urged the government to follow the same path in April. British media reported on the possible recognition of PMCs as a terrorist organization in May, a decision is planned to be made soon.
USA congress contributed a draft law on the recognition of PMCs as a terrorist organization in early 2022. Then the head of the Wagner PMC said that the Wagner group “does not fall under the criteria of a terrorist organization.” As a result, in the USA, the Wagner group determined as a transnational criminal organization.
The rebellion began after Yevgeny Prigozhin accused the Ministry of Defense of hitting PMC positions on June 23 and announced a “freedom march.” The FSB opened a criminal case on the organization of an armed rebellion. With the mediation of the President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko, the situation was resolved by the evening of June 24. The PMCs turned the columns and returned to the field camps. The FSB dropped the case of the rebellion, and the authorities promised not to prosecute its participants.
