The head of the defense committee of the Federation Council, Viktor Bondarev, said that the draft age may change in Russia in the fall. This will happen if the relevant bill enters into force.
According to him, the bill, which will spell out these changes, is planned to be introduced this spring. Most likely, it will be adopted in the spring session and will enter into force if adopted in the coming autumn.
“It is likely that the government will submit this document to the State Duma, since earlier the initiative came from Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu. At the moment, this bill is in the process of work,” Bondarev said.
He clarified that work on the project requires a comprehensive and thorough approach. It is necessary to synchronize changes in the age limits from all sides. In particular, the age of conscription will be extended to 30 years, but at the same time it should start not at 18, but at 21.
