Ivan Abramov, deputy chairman of the Federation Council committee on economic policy, said that Russia would refuse to sell oil to countries that set a ceiling price of $60 per barrel. According to him, Russia will redirect oil to those countries that want to cooperate with it.
“Of course, we will not sell oil at such a price, our oil will be sold in those countries that want to cooperate with us on mutually beneficial terms,” Mr. Abramov told RIA Novosti.
Earlier, a similar idea was expressed by Deputy Prime Minister Alexander Novak. He spokethat Russia will not supply oil and oil products to those countries that support the establishment of the limit.
Yesterday, December 2, the permanent representatives of the EU countries agreed on a price ceiling for Russian oil at $60 per barrel. Today the same measures agreed G7 countries and Australia. A formal decision can be made today, and will be announced tomorrow, after the written approval procedure. The ban will come into effect on December 5.
It is assumed that the price ceiling will be reviewed every two months. It will have to remain at least 5% below average market rates. The G7 believes that Russia has several ways out of this situation: to sell energy resources below $60 per barrel or to use the services of companies that are not part of the G7 for shipping.
