Most often, according to marketplace sellers, fines come for production errors, incorrect labeling or poor-quality packaging. For small sellers this costs an average of up to 1 thousand rubles. “It happens that fines arrive incorrectly, but we have always disputed this. Sometimes it’s 10 thousand rubles a week, sometimes it’s 1 million rubles a month. Our turnover is high. It was our fault, because we supplied the ottomans, wrote down the wrong sizes, and underestimated them. We admitted this and paid the fine. But the main thing is that the fine now greatly helps how the manufacturer fights the uncompetitive environment. Before that, when there were no fines, people installed the same dimensions, stored them for free, but storage costs money, as does delivery of the same furniture. And we competed, we didn’t understand why they seemed to be stealing furniture for free, we didn’t understand what was happening at all. And when fines were introduced, we now see: the market is changing.”

A year ago, Wildberries faced several strikes. At first, the owners of the distribution points rebelled; they disputed the fines assessed by the site. Later, sellers joined them. They complained about huge advertising bills. The management of the site responded to this by saying that some sellers ordered promotion services on the side, as a result of which the company lost about six hundred and fifty million rubles. Despite the fact that all experienced sellers initially set aside 2-3% of the budget for unforeseen expenses, the topic of fines is painful for many, says marketplace expert Artem Bobtsov: “All Wildberries sellers who have been working either for quite a long time or have high turnover are always All budgets include from 2% to 3% on average for all sorts of losses.

These losses also include fines imposed by Wildberries itself.
