German Chancellor Olaf Scholz called on the Chinese authorities to influence Moscow to withdraw troops from Ukraine, reported Reuters agency.
“My message to Beijing is clear – use your influence in Moscow to secure the withdrawal of Russian troops,” he said. He also asked not to supply “any weapons” to Russia. Scholz added that he was disappointed with Beijing’s decision to refrain from condemning the military operation in Ukraine, but appreciated the efforts of the Chinese authorities to de-escalate nuclear weapons.

The document consisted of 12 points that could contribute to the end of hostilities – a ceasefire and the beginning of a dialogue between Moscow and Kiev, respect for the sovereignty of all countries, strict adherence to the UN Charter and the principles of international law, reducing strategic risks, countering the use or threat of use of nuclear weapons, etc. .
In June 2022, the leaders of the Group of Seven (G7) countries also called on China to put pressure on Russia to end hostilities in Ukraine. Then Scholz added to the official statement of the G7 that the group, in particular, expects that Beijing will not allow Russia to circumvent Western sanctions.
