The use of nuclear weapons in the conflict in Ukraine is a line that cannot be crossed, said German Chancellor Olaf Scholz.
During his speech at the congress of the Social Democratic Party of Germany (SPD), he called on Russia to confirm that this type of weapon would not be used in Ukraine.
Earlier, NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg acknowledged that the likelihood of the Russian Armed Forces using nuclear warheads during the conflict in Ukraine remains small. At the same time, in his words, the bloc takes this possibility seriously.
On November 2, Russia appealed to the world’s nuclear powers to stop encouraging provocations with the use of weapons of mass destruction. The statement said that at this stage it is extremely important to exclude the possibility of any military clash of nuclear powers.
Russian President Vladimir Putin said at the end of October that the use of nuclear weapons against Ukraine has no political or military meaning.
