Berlin has a clear idea of how events will develop after the departure of Christina Lambrecht from the post of German defense minister, said German Chancellor Olaf Scholz.
“The Federal Armed Forces, the Department of Defense and everyone involved in national defense deserve to know this soon. I know how things should happen, from my point of view. And we will announce it in a timely manner,” said Scholz (quote according to RIA Novosti).
Speaking about Lambrecht’s resignation, he also noted that he respected her decision and that he had been willing to work with her for many years.
Scholz granted Lambrecht’s resignation earlier today. According to the Welt edition, she has been criticized for several months, she was repeatedly called for to vacate her position. Critics accused her of a “sluggish” start of procurement for the Bundeswehr or a lack of experience, and also condemned her public appearances.
Prior to Lambrecht, Annegret Kramp-Karrenbauer was Minister of Defense. She replaced her party member Ursula von der Leyen in this post, who was elected head of the European Commission.
