Scholz announced his intention to have a telephone conversation with Putin

German Chancellor Olaf Scholz intends to have another telephone conversation with Russian President Vladimir Putin. He stated this at the 38th Congress of Protestant Churches.

“I intend to do this [провести телефонный разговор] again soon,” said the chancellor (quote according to TASS). He added that he held talks with the Russian president before and during the military operation in Ukraine.

Scholz also noted that “negotiations are normal”, while the question is “who is negotiating with whom and about what.” Press Secretary of the President of Russia Dmitry Peskov informed RIA Novosti that Putin does not yet have plans to have a telephone conversation with the German Chancellor.

Last telephone conversation between the Chancellor and the President of Russia passed December 2 last year. Then the initiative to hold the conversation was also from Berlin. The Kremlin press service said that Putin “explained in detail the fundamental Russian approaches to conducting a special military operation.” He drew attention to “the destructive line of Western states, including Germany, pumping up the Kiev regime with weapons,” which hinders the negotiation process between Russia and Ukraine.

In addition, issues of implementation of the grain deal, which was concluded in the summer of 2022, were noted. The leaders focused on the need for “conscientious comprehensive implementation” of the terms of the Black Sea deal, including those related to the Russian part for the supply of fertilizers to other countries.

The grain deal was concluded on July 22 last year by representatives of Turkey and the UN on the one hand and representatives of Russia and Ukraine on the other. Moscow has repeatedly noted that the second part of the deal is not being implemented. Now the grain deal has been extended until July 17.
