Scholz announced Germany’s unwillingness to supply Ukraine with long-range weapons

Germany does not want to transfer weapons to Ukraine that can be used to attack Russia. This was stated by German Chancellor Olaf Scholz in an interview with the ARD television channel, answering a question about the possibility of supplying long-range Taurus missiles to Kyiv.

“We carefully review all the requests we receive. But for us there is a principle that I share with the American president – we do not want the weapons we supply to be used to hit Russian territories, ”he said (quote according to RIA Novosti).

At the end of May it became known that Ukraine requested Germany will supply Taurus long-range missiles with a range of up to 500 km. According to Der Spiegel, Germany bought about 600 Taurus 10 years ago, of which only 150 missiles can now work. May 30 Minister of Defense of Ukraine Oleksiy Reznikov urged Germany to supply such weapons to Kyiv.

June 26 German Defense Minister Boris Pistorius declaredthat Germany does not intend to transfer cruise missiles to Ukraine. He stressed that Berlin’s position on this issue has not changed.

After the start of Russia’s special operation in Ukraine, Western countries began to provide financial assistance to Ukraine and supply it with military equipment and weapons. The Russian authorities have repeatedly criticized such supplies, noting the growth of direct and indirect involvement in the conflict of Western countries. Earlier, the UK transferred Storm Shadow long-range cruise missiles to Ukraine.
