The Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) will ask the court to increase businessman Igor Kolomoisky’s bail on a new charge to 5.8 billion hryvnia (about $157 million at the exchange rate as of September 15). This was announced by Advisor to the Head of the Office of the President of Ukraine Sergei Leshchenko, writes edition “Country”.

It is clarified that this is the amount the oligarch is suspected of in the case of withdrawing funds from Privatbank.

“If the court really designates 5.8 billion hryvnia or so as a preventive measure, this will mean that the oligarch, most likely, will not be released in the near future,” the report says. The Shevchenko Court of Kyiv may consider choosing a preventive measure today, September 15.

Earlier, the SBU filed a new charge against the entrepreneur in the case of fraud with PrivatBank. According to the service, in the period from 2013 to 2014, 5.8 billion hryvnia were deposited into the bank, which were later legalized in non-cash form.

September 7 National Anti-Corruption Bureau of Ukraine (NABU) presented accusation against a businessman of embezzling 9.2 billion hryvnia from Privatbank. The bank, according to the bureau, was artificially obliged to pay “more than 9.2 billion hryvnia to a controlled company” under the pretext of “repurchasing its own bonds at an inflated cost.”

Currently, Kolomoisky is in a pre-trial detention center on charges of illegally withdrawing more than $13 million. According to the SBU, Kolomoisky, from 2013 to 2020, legalized funds by transferring them abroad using controlled banking institutions.
