SBU charges Ukrainian TV presenter Kot with treason

The Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) suspected the former Ukrainian TV presenter Yuriy Kot of treason. This was reported on the website of the Office of the Prosecutor General of Ukraine.
“The cat is suspected of treason, that is, activities that threaten the sovereignty, territorial integrity, defense capability, state and information security of Ukraine under martial law under Part 2 of Art. 111 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine,” the SBU document says.
Under this article, the Cat faces up to 15 years in prison or life imprisonment with confiscation of property.
According to law enforcement agencies, during the coup in Ukraine in 2013-2014. The cat was the host at the “anti-Maidan” – events in support of the fourth president of Ukraine, Viktor Yanukovych.
The SBU also refers to the speeches of the TV presenter, in which he supports the policy of the Russian authorities. Law enforcement agencies also have complaints about Kota’s messages on social networks. In particular, he is accused of treason for publishing in the Telegram channel.
The document notes that from 2007 to 2014, Kot worked at the National Public Television and Radio Company of Ukraine and on the Inter TV channel, and later moved to Russia, where he got a job at the Rossiya Segodnya and News Front news agencies.
Earlier, the SBU put Timofey Sergeytsev, a freelance author of the RIA Novosti website, and Armen Gasparyan, a Sputnik journalist, on the international wanted list. Ukrainian authorities suspect journalists of committing crimes under three articles of the Criminal Code of Ukraine.
