Sberbank warned users about a phone fraud scheme in which attackers ask about relatives in order to protect them from theft of funds. This is stated in the message of the bank’s press service (available to Kommersant).
As the credit institution explained, during the conversation, the scammers tell the Russians about some attempts to get a loan for them and steal money. The attackers offer to apply for a loan to “deplete the credit potential”, and after the funds are transferred, they ask for the details of relatives, who also “may be in danger.”
According to the Bank of Russia, in the first quarter of 2023, a record was set for the theft of funds from bank customers — more than 4.5 billion rubles. In July the regulator informed about a new fraud scheme in which Russians are invited to a personal reception at the Central Bank.
