Saudi Arabia starts consultations on Ukraine

In Saudi Jeddah, two-day negotiations of national security advisers and political advisers began, where Ukraine should present its “peace formula”. About 40 states take part in the meeting, but it takes place without the participation of Russia, informs Al Jazeera.

The Saudi Press Agency previously reported that the government of the kingdom on August 5 counts discuss at the international level “ways to resolve the crisis by political and diplomatic means”. The holding of the meeting, as noted, is a continuation of the humanitarian and peace initiatives that Riyadh came up with after the outbreak of hostilities.

According to The Wall Street Journal, up to 30 countries were invited to Jeddah, including Indonesia, Egypt, Mexico, Chile and Zambia. Great Britain, South Africa, Poland and the EU countries have already agreed to participate, the Czech Republic was the first to confirm the official invitation. From the United States, National Security Adviser Jake Sullivan can attend the meeting, and China will be represented at the talks by Special Representative for Eurasian Affairs Li Hui.

It also became known that Russia is not planned to be invited to the meeting. Press Secretary of the Russian President Dmitry Peskov informedthat Moscow will follow the talks in Jeddah, and Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said that “if Saudi Arabia’s talks on Ukraine help the West understand the dead end of the“ plan [президента Владимира] Zelensky”, then they will not be useless.”
