Sales of new cars in Russia fell by almost 60% in nine months

In Russia, 753.5 thousand new cars and light commercial vehicles were sold from January to September, the Association of European Businesses reported (.pdf). This is 59.6% less than in the same period in 2021.

In September, the dynamics of the decline slowed down a bit. For the month, sales amounted to 46.7 thousand, which is 59.6% less than in September 2021. In August, sales of cars and light commercial vehicles decreased by 62.4% compared to the same period in 2021 (41.7 thousand).

Car sales in January-September:

  • commercial vehicles – 52.9 thousand (10.4% of the total);
  • SUVs – 242.7 thousand (47.9%);
  • pickups — 3.9 thousand (0.8%);
  • electric vehicles – 333.

The AEB monthly data does not include sales of BMW and Mercedes-Benz Rus due to the periodic release of sales data. Also, the statistics do not include Chery sales at the decision of the automaker.
