“The area has fallen into disrepair, overgrown with weeds and littered with garbage. The houses are falling apart. Most of the medical institutions are closed,” said Saldo.
He estimates that there are no more than 40,000 residents left in the city.
On September 30, 2022, Russian President Vladimir Putin and the heads of the DPR, LPR, Kherson and Zaporozhye regions signed agreements on joining Russia. The head of state emphasized that residents of the annexed territories “become citizens of the Russian Federation forever.”
At the same time, in November 2022, Kherson again came under the control of Ukraine.
