Saakashvili’s mother says her son no longer intends to participate in politics

Ex-president of Georgia Mikheil Saakashvili is no longer going to participate in the political life of the republic. His condition is deteriorating, while Saakashvili does not blame the Georgian authorities for his possible poisoning. This statement was made by the politician’s mother Giuli Alasania on Saakashvili’s Facebook page (banned in Russia, owned by the Meta corporation, recognized as extremist in the Russian Federation).

“We want to make our point clear: Mikheil Saakashvili does not blame the Georgian authorities for his possible poisoning,” the message says.

The politician’s mother urged to refrain from politicizing the topic of Saakashvili’s state of health. She noted that the “question of life and death” of the ex-president of Georgia is currently being resolved. Giuli Alasania added that the politician’s condition is deteriorating. According to her, Saakashvili no longer intends to participate in the political life of the country.

On November 28, the politician’s lawyer Shalva Khachapuridze informedthat traces of arsenic were found in Saakashvili’s body. Earlier, the mother of the ex-president and the lawyer claimed that the tests also showed an increased content of heavy metals, including mercury, in the politician’s body. At the same time, Saakashvili himself refuted.

In addition, Khachapuridze stated that the ex-president of the republic has a suspicion of dementia and tuberculosis, as well as 34 other diseases. The day before, December 1, lawyer sent to the court a petition for the release of his client because of the diseases diagnosed in him.

Saakashvili was detained in Georgia on October 1, 2021. He returned to the country shortly before the first round of the municipal elections. Initially, the politician was in the prison of the city of Rustavi, but on November 8 he was transferred to the Tbilisi prison hospital due to health concerns. In December, Saakashvili continued to serve his sentence in a prison in Rustavi.

On May 12, 2022, he was again transferred to a Tbilisi clinic for a medical examination. Doctors revealed a spinal injury in him, the ex-president of Georgia needed an operation. In November, Khachapuridze announced that Georgian specialists and foreign experts were continuing to examine the politician. Earlier, Saakashvili’s mother said that his possible poisoning could be grounds for release.
