Former Georgian President Mikheil Saakashvili collapsed during a court hearing in his case of illegal border crossing. This was reported by his lawyer, specifying that the trial took place in a private clinic in Tbilisi.

According to lawyer Massimo Dangelo, the defense learned that on the eve of Saakashvili’s room, “representatives of the prosecutor’s office burst in and tried to arrange a trial.” The lawyer added that “against the background of high pressure and an attack” his client lost consciousness. Dangelo also said that on Wednesday Saakashvili was examined by an American neurologist and concluded that Saakashvili’s health “significantly worsened.” The lawyer did not provide details.

The next hearing on this Saakashvili case is scheduled for October 19.
