Saakashvili denied reports of his poisoning

Former Georgian President Mikheil Saakashvili said he did not tell his lawyers about the suspected poisoning. He spoke about this on his Facebook page (banned in the Russian Federation; owned by Meta, which is recognized as extremist in the Russian Federation).
“I want to state that I have never told any of my lawyers that I have a suspicion of poisoning. Speculation on this topic is inappropriate,” Saakashvili wrote on social networks.
However, he confirmed that over the past two months, his health has deteriorated. According to him, the doctors of the Vivamed clinic are making every effort. He also urged not to politicize this issue.
Mikheil Saakashvili was detained in Georgia on October 1, 2021. He returned to the country shortly before the first round of municipal elections. Initially, the politician was in the prison of the city of Rustavi, but on November 8 he was transferred to the Tbilisi prison hospital due to health concerns. In December, Saakashvili continued to serve his sentence in a prison in Rustavi.
On May 12, 2022, he was again transferred to a Tbilisi clinic for a medical examination. Doctors revealed a spinal injury in him, the ex-president of Georgia needed an operation. In November, Saakashvili’s lawyer Shalva Khachapuridze informedthat the specialists continue the examination, the politician has suspicions of dementia and tuberculosis, as well as 34 other diseases.
19 November Saakashvili’s mother Giuli Alasania statedthat the former president of Georgia was found to have an increased content of heavy metals, including mercury, in his body. It is not known how these substances got into the politician’s body, she noted. According to Saakashvili’s mother, the conclusion of the doctors may become the basis for the release of the politician.
On November 20, a rally was held in Tbilisi, at which several hundred people demanded that the Georgian authorities allow Saakashvili to be taken abroad for treatment.
